This project-based summer camp engages middle school youth in exploring design thinking processes, digital tools, and visual arts.
As we emerge from the pandemic we are keeping in mind their experiences over the past year, with camp journeys centered on their perspectives. Campers will have the opportunity for reflection and dreaming while creating projects that express their unique points of view. This year’s program will include 3, 2-week sessions and will be presented via distance learning, with some in-person activities included. Materials will be provided via “kits” that will be distributed in person at the beginning of each session. Each session has a different theme and the camp day is divided into two parts - Focused Learning and Tinker Time. Activities are designed to be engaging, dynamic, and innovative, with campers encouraged to think outside the box and follow their ideas in directions that their passions and creativity guide them. Campers will document their own learning and discovery, and share their work at a Student Showcase at the end of each session. All projects are designed to enhance their creative confidence, academic skills and computer literacy.
The camp was the Microsoft/KCI 2016 Innovation Award Grand Prize winner!
There is a Student Showcase on the last day of each camp week, from 3:30-4:30pm. Students have the opportunity to share their designs, projects and process with family friends, staff, guests, and Industry professionals. All are invited to provide comments and feedback on student work.
