July 11 - July 15
Instructor: Various

This week will provide a different theme and instructor each day to introduce campers to a variety styles and projects.

Monday (July 11th): Circuitry Day
Instructor: Lauren Cage

9:00am            Housekeeping and intros
                 ●      Introductions
                 ●      Classroom expectations
                 ●      Rundown of activities for the day

9:10am            Ice Breaker activity: Circuits are Everywhere
                 ●      Campers will call out what items in their homes need power (plug-ins, batteries, etc).
                 ●      Compile a list on the board.
                 ●      Ask campers what these items have in common (they all use a circuit to give the item power)

9:20am            Slides: Intro to Circuitry

9:35am            Interactive Storyboarding
A storyboard is a visual map or layout. Many kinds of storytellers (filmmakers, etc.) use storyboarding to organize and plan                          out the structure of their story.

Video: The Purpose of Storyboarding (first 5 minutes)

Our storyboard is going to go a step further by being interactive. Punch an LED through the storyboard where you want a                            light and follow the instructions on the back to build your copper tape circuit.

Materials: Interactive Storyboards (printed on cardstock, both sides), pencils, markers/colored pencils, copper tape, LEDs                          and coin batteries

10:15am                                     BREAK

10:30am          Circuit Wands
Material List: copper tape, electrical tape (multiple colors), coin batteries, 3/8" x 12” wooden dowels and gumdrop LEDs,                           assorted decorative items, scissors, glue guns and sticks, rulers, styrofoam balls (optional)

11:30am                                     LUNCH

Instructor: Michele Guieu

9:00am            Intro/Warm Up Activity: Look around you - Everything comes from Earth
You find out all the “things” you can see in the makerspace. You’ll add all the observations on a wall using post-it notes                                and you’ll place them in a section where you think they are made of: plastic, plastic +metal, metal, wood, wood + metal,                              wood + metal + plastic, etc.

9:30am            Activity/Lesson: Presentation - find out why plankton is so important on our planet
You learn about the TONGA scientific oceanographic mission in the South Pacific ocean, and the link between the material                          we are going to use to do the art project and the ocean. You’ll have a look at the amazing photos of phytoplankton species                          taken during the TONGA mission.

1:00pm            TINKER TIME
Create more phytoplankton species to add to the installation. Or create something with the light cardboard we used in the                          morning: silhouettes of animals living in the ocean for example? Find a way to make them stand up.

The Climate Fresk NGO has been working to bring people and organisations on board with the climate transition since the                          end of 2018. We do this by enabling the rapid growth of climate education and shared understanding of the challenge that                          climate change represents."
