Monday (July 11th): Circuitry Day

9:00am Housekeeping and intros
● Introductions
● Classroom expectations
● Rundown of activities for the day
9:10am Ice Breaker activity: Circuits are Everywhere
● Campers will call out what items in their homes need power (plug-ins, batteries, etc).
● Compile a list on the board.
● Ask campers what these items have in common (they all use a circuit to give the item power)
9:20am Slides: Intro to Circuitry
9:35am Interactive Storyboarding
A storyboard is a visual map or layout. Many kinds of storytellers (filmmakers, etc.) use storyboarding to organize and plan out the structure of their story.
Video: The Purpose of Storyboarding (first 5 minutes)
Our storyboard is going to go a step further by being interactive. Punch an LED through the storyboard where you want a light and follow the instructions on the back to build your copper tape circuit.
Materials: Interactive Storyboards (printed on cardstock, both sides), pencils, markers/colored pencils, copper tape, LEDs and coin batteries

Material List: copper tape, electrical tape (multiple colors), coin batteries, 3/8" x 12” wooden dowels and gumdrop LEDs, assorted decorative items, scissors, glue guns and sticks, rulers, styrofoam balls (optional)

Tuesday (July 12th): Stellar Stamps!

9:00am Intro/Warm Up Activity: Quick drawing!
We share words – animals, plants, objects – and you draw its shape in less than a minute.
9:30am Activity/Lesson: DEMO How to create a stamp using a simple shape
Learn how to draw your design, transfer the drawing on a carving pad, use the positive and negative space, carve, print, make changes, and use different colors of inks.
You create a small stamp in two versions: a positive and a negative.
10:15am BREAK
10:30am Activity/Lesson: You create a larger design.
You sketch ideas for a new design, select one and draw it, refine your drawing, transfer it on the carving pad, carve, print, and experience with different colors.
11:30am LUNCH
12:15pm Continue morning activity.
1:00pm TINKER TIME
You have more carving pads at your disposition for exploration. You can experiment with different types of paper, and different colors of inks. You can make cards and envelopes for a special person.

Wednesday (July 13th): Extraordinary Plankton
Instructor: Michele Guieu
9:00am Intro/Warm Up Activity: Look around you - Everything comes from Earth
You find out all the “things” you can see in the makerspace. You’ll add all the observations on a wall using post-it notes and you’ll place them in a section where you think they are made of: plastic, plastic +metal, metal, wood, wood + metal, wood + metal + plastic, etc.
9:30am Activity/Lesson: Presentation - find out why plankton is so important on our planet
You learn about the TONGA scientific oceanographic mission in the South Pacific ocean, and the link between the material we are going to use to do the art project and the ocean. You’ll have a look at the amazing photos of phytoplankton species taken during the TONGA mission.
10:15am BREAK
10:30am Activity/Lesson: You create plankton species with light packaging cardboard.
11:30am LUNCH
12:15pm Continue morning activity
You finish the drawings, cut them, glue the pods on the back, and create the collective installation on a wall in the makerspace.
1:00pm TINKER TIME
Create more phytoplankton species to add to the installation. Or create something with the light cardboard we used in the morning: silhouettes of animals living in the ocean for example? Find a way to make them stand up.

Build a gauntlet from a provided kit out of cardboard, brads, and rubber bands.

Friday (July 15th): Tinker Time Activities

9:00am Welcome and Introductions
9:05am Paper Circuit Lantern
Campers will create a Paper Lantern that includes a circuit to light it up.
Materials: Template, LED light, copper tape, 3 volt battery, clear tape
9:35am Bot Design
Campers will create an original moving Bot from recycled materials that includes a motor and an on/off switch. Campers will explain why and how their bot moves.
Materials: Recycled materials, motor, 3v battery, paper clips, glue, tape

10:30am Climate Fresk with Michele Guieu
Michele Guieu, facilitator for the Climate Fresk, will guide the group workshop specially tailored for youth, through 3 phases:
- The first one is about climate change knowledge: the students create their fresk with 3 sets of cards.
- The second is about the emotions that come with the knowledge: students decorate their fresk.
- The third is a discussion about what can be done.
