Description: Fold a helmet out of paper together.
Materials: Origami paper
9:30 am Activity/Lesson: Gauntlet Project
Description: Build a gauntlet from a provided kit out of cardboard, brads, and rubber bands.

Tuesday (June 18st): Arts & Culture

9:30 am Activity: Alebrijes
Description: Campers will learn to make a professional sculpture of an alebrije, a fantastical creature, using
"papier-mâché" techniques. They will design & sculpt their own alebrije, add two layers of paper with paste, and sand
and paint their finished sculptures (which will be done during Tinker Time after their sculpture has had time to dry.
Materials: paper for drawing designs, newspaper, masking tape, brown paper rolls, paste, paint
Supplies: Pencils, scissors, sandpaper, paint brushes

10:30 am Activity: Step By Step Painting
Description: Campers will paint a Hummingbird on a Cactus, which the artist designed because both are images that
appear in Indigenous Mesoamerican art and modern Mexican art, which is part of her heritage.
Materials: Paint canvas and paints
Supplies: Paint brushes, paint palettes, sponges, cups for water, aprons

12:30 pm Transition into Tinker Time: Brief reflection in Maker Journal
Campers will share what their favorite morning activity was, including why
Campers will write what they plan to do during Tinker Time in their journals

Alternative Tinker Time Activity: Modeling Clay
Campers will use clay to create bowls with heads, feet, and tails! Alternatively they can create an animal of their choice,
such as a snake, jaguar, elephant, or cat. The instructor will offer demonstrations on how to shape various animals and
how to use clay modeling tools to enhance their creations.
