Engineering for Your Environment


Mini Week - July 5-7

Instructor – Erin Salter


Campers will design housing, transportation, and more to fit various environments.  Campers will need to think about environmental demands and ways to meet those challenges in a fun and artistically creative way.


Week Schedule

Wednesday:
  • What does engineering for you environment mean? Talk about different environmental challenges
  • Design and craft a rover for an alien planet

Thursday:
  • Discuss earthquake forces and safety: videos and discussion - what does it take for a building to be stable in an earthquake?
  • Create models of earthquake safe towns/buildings
  • Test your buildings on an earthquake table, revise your buildings to be safer or take on more advanced challenges

Friday:
  •  Harnessing the wind: talk about wind power and build pinwheels as an example
  • Build boats that move using wind but no sails
  • A floating pirate city: put together a city that can stand the wind and the waves
